I wasn't really making a labor force argument for immigration (nor am I arguing for entirely open borders), although it seems pretty clear that for as long as immigration has been regulated, business has been the most vocal proponent of immigration, since many immigrants do the jobs other Americans don't want - and others with higher education fill the jobs Americans can't fill in sufficient numbers. And as far as I can see today, unemployment among immigrants (legal and illegal) is no higher than it is for the general population. And if all immigrants were allowed to work legally, I imagine it might even be lower than for the general population. Thanks for reading.
